Deeside contains another of the classic salmon rivers, namely the River Dee itself. The Dee is famous worldwide and with the Royal residence at Balmoral the area is now known as Royal Deeside.

Recent reports suggest the spring fishing in the 2001 season saw catches doubled on many beats from the previous year and that the Dee is back to its excellent form. There were also unconfirmed reports of a 70lber returned a few years ago.

The Ythan is a river which is known for its sea trout, while the Esk frther to the south is predominantly a salmon river.

Do not overlook the River Don either, it is really pretty and the middle reaches are a joy to fish with a decent single hander.

Home to Scotland's greatest spring run of Atlantic salmon. For over a century anglers have come from all over the world to pit their skills against this most prized quarry. The majestic Royal Dee flows from the heart of the Cairngorm Mountains for over 80 miles to the North Sea at Aberdeen. The Dee is a clear, fast flowing river which flows through the magnificent scenery of Royal Deeside. In addition to the spring salmon run the river also provides excellent summer fishing for salmon, grilse and sea-trout.

Little Blackhall lodge and fishings
Situated approximately three miles west of Banchory on the middle reaches of the River Dee. It is a most attractive beat, with a wide variety of water and some excellent holding pools. This is a four rod beat.

Avochie Estate
The Salmon and Sea Trout fishings comprise over two and a half miles of the famous River Deveron. There are 24 named pools, and all but one stretch of 900 yards are double bank fishing. The beat is good fly water, with a good variation of pools and rapids. The River Isla joins the Deveron at the Avochie junction pool.

1¼ miles of single bank salon fishing on one of the most famous Middle Dee beats. There are 12 named pools including the renowned Moral Pool, reputedly one of the most beautiful on the Dee. Fishing is by fly only.
